- OK, here it goes....
-
- I have a friend who has a Computer Peripherals Viva 28.8 modem. He has
- his machine set up as a dial-up server for DUN. We have used this set
- up for quite a while with no problems. I have a USR 28.8 Sportster.
-
- This is the problem. While connected the other day, I attempted to
- browse his CDROM drive while I was downloading files from the same
- CDROM. He has a 6X Creative Labs CDROM drive. I simply clicked the
- window to change folders on the CDROM drive. His computer did not
- respond. I then just closed the window to his CDROM, all while the
- file tranfer was taking place in the background. I noticed at that
- point that the transfer seemed to have halted. The file transfer
- window was still open, but there was no data being tranferred. When I
- attempted to click cancel button transfer button and my computer
- froze. Ctrl-Alt-Delete did not respond, so I hit reset. I dailed back
- into his computer after I rebooted, and at first all seemed fine.
-
- When I ran his computer name to see his shares, a window opened. When
- I clicked his CDROM icon, his computer did not respond. I hung up and
- dialed back, and this time his computer would not respond when I ran
- his computer name.
-
- Next, my friend tried to dial out, and his modem would not respond. He
- rebooted, and his computer did not recognize his modem or his CDROM
- drive!!! Eventually his computer would not even boot up without giving
- Error messages about not finding virtual drivers!!!
-
- He finally had to format his HDD, and re-install Windows95 to get his
- system up and runnning. Win95 will recognize his modem, but it still
- can not dial out.
-
- I realize I do not have enough details about his error messages, and
- hardware. But, has anyone heard of anything similar to this?
